We sat down with Gordon Wishart, Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Check4Cancer, to ask him his thoughts on the future of AI in healthcare.
If you could solve any global health problem in the world with AI, what would it be?
Improving global inequalities in cancer survival by improving access to investigations and reducing delays to diagnosis and treatment.
What do you think will be the biggest impact of AI and tech in the healthcare sector in the next 5 years?
Using good quality data to generate AI models and medical devices that can accelerate, enhance and standardise many of the manual processes that currently slow down diagnostic and treatment patient pathways. For example the use of Check4Cancer's app and AI model to accelerate skin cancer diagnosis.
What's your biggest fear around the application of AI/tech in the healthcare field?
That it wont happen quick enough due to delays in the medical device regulatory process and the current lack of mutual MDR regulation between UK, Europe & North America.
Who do you admire most in the world of healthcare?
Professor Andrew Beggs, Consultant colorectal surgeon & cancer geneticist, University of Birmingham
Dr Luke James, Workforce Health Leader, Mercer Marsh Benefits
