Ahead of Intelligent Health UK (24-25 May 2023, ExCeL London), we asked Ana Ribeiro, AI Transformation Lead at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust her thoughts on the future of AI in healthcare.
If you could solve any global health problem in the world with AI, what would it be?
Precision medicine - tailored treatment to the patient as a whole.
How do you think AI will make its biggest mark in healthcare in the next 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?
Integrated diagnostics - a total and holistic view of a patient's health. with increasing granularity over the years with advances in tech and AI.

What excites you most about the application of AI in healthcare?
Allowing for knowledge and equal opportunities to be accessible to all - patients and healthcare professionals.
What’s your biggest fear in relation to the application of AI in the health/medicine field?
Healthcare professionals will lose the critical thinking and the human touch - we will prefer to hide under the big AI umbrella.
How do you think AI will cause human contact in healthcare to change in the future?
That is THE question: will AI give us the time for human interaction or will we hide behind AI so we have less human interaction. remains to be seen, but innovators and champions play a key role to shape how AI will be used.
What does AI mean for the skill requirements of health professionals? How will it change?
AI doesn't mean a lot for many people yet - and that is what needs changing. Education and opportunities need to become widely available to transform healthcare.

What are your personal goals from the summit?
Learn from others - learn from the experience of others and their successes and mistakes. Learn about new technologies and how they are innovating healthcare
